Some things better left unsaid...

I have not blogged in the last few days because I would probably say something that gets me in trouble. After years of talking to civic groups about New Orleans and the waiting disaster...well you get the idea.

Still, I am in the forecasting business. Once the storm hits, it becomes the news department's problem. I will say that I am proud of the media's excellent (for the most part) coverage of the catastrophe on the Gulf Coast.

My company, (The New York Times) has also offered to match at 150% any contributions from employees, to the relief effort. This at a time when ad revenues for newspapers and local TV are down. Yes there are some greedy corporate companies out there but I can say proudly, my employer is not one of them.

Big solar flare recorded Wednesday on the sun. As the sun rotates that flare in the direction of Earth in the next week or so, we may see a geomagnetic storm and a display of the Aurora Borealis.

It continues to amaze me how these internet hoaxes keep going and going. I wrote a blog about the tornado pictures that I get several times a week a few months back. They still come with a different dateline every time. I showed them on air tonight in an attempt to get the word out.

A great site for discovering the truth behind these things is snopes.com. They have a listing of all the internet hoax stories, pictures, rumors etc.

For those of you who like me cannot wait for the cooler weather, it looks like this pattern will continue up to the 21st then begin to transition to cooler weather for good.

Later,
